Let’s Talk About Topaz
Topaz, commonly thought to be a simple blue or yellow gemstone, is in fact an incredible gem that ranges from rich, stunning purples to bright, sparkling sky blues. Traditionally, Blue Topaz is known as the December birthstone (along with Tanzanite) and Imperial Topaz is recognized in November.
Topaz in it’s purest state is colorless, but the presence of impurities and trace elements cause the individual color we know and love this gemstone for. Elements like Chromium can be the cause of natural pinks, reds, and purples in Topaz, color ranges that we often forget this gemstone offers us. Topaz is also a “Pleochroic” stone, meaning that it can show color in different areas and directions within the stone’s crystal structure.
To put it lightly, Topaz is pretty spectacular.
